Lib-Nat-ALP abandon Maules Creek community

The approval of Whitehaven’s Maules Creek Coal Project is a devastating blow for the local farming community and environment, said Greens lead Senate candidate for NSW Cate Faehrmann.

“This is devastating news for the local community who has been fighting tirelessly for years against this destructive proposal,” said Ms Faehrmann.

“This decision will see farmers who have been on the land for generations have no choice but to sell up.

“This decision demonstrates that the Labor, Liberal and National parties stand firmly with big miners. The Greens are now well and truly the only party standing with communities against the onslaught of coal and gas companies.

“Whitehaven’s Maules Creek coal project will destroy over 2,000 hectares of Leard Forest’s native vegetation, including 544 hectares of critically endangered woodland. It’s environmental destruction of the worst kind and the community will not sit idly by and see this forest destroyed,” she said.
